What may seem like a petty regulation at first glance is a serious matter in Sardinia.

Because tourists take tons of sand, stones and shells as souvenirs from the island every year. This represents considerable damage to the environment and is therefore prohibited by law.

The fines are stiff: 500€ – 3,000€.

So please leave the sand where it belongs. Stealing sand would have potentially disastrous consequences for the environment.
